These are for the Summer Rewind 2 round at somein30. For this batch I chose to redo Round 3: Vibrant vs Muted. I chose hard mode which means each icon needed to draw from the inspirations in the challenge post. Hover over the icons to see which inspiration was used.
Muted colouring is a weak spot of mine which is one reason I wanted I picked this round. The first 10 are (obviously IMO) inspired the vibrant inspirations in the challenge post and I had a lot of fun with them. The second ten were inspired from the muted section and I also had fun but also found it tricky. I kept defaulting to techniques that I usually used and then had to "rescue" the icons 🙈. Towards the end though I think I had managed to rewire my brain a little and was able to deliberately work towards a more muted outcome (even if they still seem a bit on the vibrant side to me).
If any of you have any concrit or favourite tips and tricks for muted colouring, please do share them! (If you want to 😁).

My problem is usually making more vibrant icons, so I get your problem/frustration and can't really help...

And thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad there's so many icons you like. 8 is a personal favourite of mine as well ^^

I love the composition of 1, 2, 3, 12 and 14 and the crop of 13, 15 looks amazing. I also love the graceful framing and soft coloring of 14 and 20. And the mirror composition of 16 looks so cool !

I especially like 5 (awesome crop and coloring), 6 and 7 (great text placement), 9 (I love the borders and the zooming in in the levels), 12 (great daring composition), and 19 (amazing coloring!).
My own process usually tends towards pastel coloring, and I've written a tutorial on muted skin tones last year that might provide some inspiration? https://tinny.dreamwidth.org/651350.html
